[good reads] deadline

Anybody read this yet?

goodreads-headergoodreads-deadline This book was recently recommened to me by a fellow teacher who happens to teach at my District’s middle school. All students are reading it in my fellow teacher’s Language Arts class so I figured I should check it out, too. Deadline by Chris Crutcher certainly is different from the other books I normally read.

Deadline is told through the voice of a high school senior, Ben, who at the very beginning of the book finds out he has cancer. He’s given one year to live; thus decides to live this year to the very fullest, gaining as much wisdom as possible and being bolder than he’s ever been before.

At the end of the book, it’s not a spoiler to say that he’s no longer with the other characters, but his journey is what’s important. It makes the reader really think about what we all live for. Certainly we…
